Year One Phonics Check Screening Test KS1 Resources IWB Smartboards EYFS KS1

Alien Word Cards: This publisher document contains many alien words written on flashcards each one with different alien pictures. I have made them in exactly the same format as the phonics screening check, so that it is familiar for the children.

Normal Word Card: This publisher document contains lots of regular words
written on flashcards with no pictures. I have made them in exactly the same format as the phonics screening check, so that it is familiar for the children.

Alien Words Game: This game consists of several boards (can be laminated for continued use - cut and laminate the alien words from the side) children select the planets from the table, if they can read it they place the planet on the matching size planet. When all the planets are covered with alien words they win!

Alien Words Activity: Children take it in turns to turn over one of the alien words. Once they have selected the word they need to use their phonetic knowledge to blend the word. If read successfully they get to colour in a star on their planet board card. The person who has coloured in all their stars is the winner!

Alien Videos: I have made and recorded 3 videos. Each video develops children's abilities to use blending to read alien words. Video 1 uses basic CVC words, Video 2 and 3 begin to explore CVCC CCVC words with more complex and tricky letter and sounds. Children can watch the video and see myself write each word and verbally sound out each sound to read as a whole. Great for practice and as a handy time filler!

*NEW! Letter to Parents: I have put together this letter to send out to Parents and Carers to introduce the phonics check and to hopefully clarify any questions or concerns.
*NEW! Example Practice Booklet: I have made a booklet just like the real one! Inside are words from last years test so that you can use to practice before the check.

*NEW! Powerpoint about the Phonics Check:
I have made this powerpoint presentation to use during a whole school staff meeting to give information on the check and to answer any questions or concerns.
